Figure skating
I believe that the key to success is to have a growth mindset - the belief that you are in control of your own ability and can learn and improve. Anything is possible if you are willing to work hard for it - nothing comes for free, but the hard work always pays off.
I started figure skating at the age of 3 in Finland. Born and raised in Finland, I competed successfully in Advanced International level in Singles until the age of 14, after which I switched to one of the World level Junior Synchronized Skating teams. My team won several gold, silver and bronze medals around the world, including a silver medal in the Junior World Championships.
My coaching career includes coaching up to Elite level figure skaters in Sweden, where I was responsible for planning and executing on and off ice programs and camps for different level skaters. Currently I am coaching in Melbourne, all levels from beginner to elite including both on and off ice training.
On the ice I specialise in correcting technique and finding the edge, control and strength. I emphasize the importance of off ice training to enhance skaters’ technique and strength on the ice. Strength and conditioning, coordination and agility drills, mobility and flexibility are just some examples of all the training methods that need to be incorporated into a figure skater’s training plan to support an efficient and injury-free training.
As a coach I have an extreme drive and passion for getting best out of the athletes that I work with. I have learnt that as a coach you must empower your athletes and give them the required tools whereby, they can confidently go out on the ice and perform. Having been an athlete myself and still actively training to reach new goals, I understand the mental and physical demands that come in to play and what it takes to compete at highest level and perform under pressure.
I look forward to working with you and helping you to reach your athletic potential – which you will never know unless you push yourself to find it.
